Our Mission & Shocking Stats
We believe that reading is a human right. Our mission is to close the generational literacy gap in Philadelphia. Today, “52 percent of adult Philadelphians are functionally illiterate” (Center for Literacy). Strikingly, from the Philadelphia Workforce Investment Board, two-thirds of adults in Philadelphia lack basic literacy skills. Each recording is an opportunity for your child to embrace a new challenge. In the United States as a whole, “two-thirds of students who cannot read proficiently by the end of 4th grade will end up in jail or on welfare” (Department of Education)
